Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Nicosia on Saturday in connection with the murder of Stavros Demosthenous in Limassol, following the discovery of a motorcycle believed to have been used by perpetrators to escape the scene.

The 45-year-old is the registered owner of the large-capacity dark-coloured scooter that authorities located earlier on Saturday and will be transferred to Limassol Police Headquarters for questioning.

According to philenews sources, investigators believe another vehicle was also used by the perpetrators to facilitate their escape after burning the van used during the crime commission.

Senior police leadership members are currently present at Limassol CID headquarters as investigations intensify.

The autopsy on the victim’s body was completed at Nicosia General Hospital shortly before 1:00pm by forensic pathologist Nikolas Charalambous, with findings indicating at least two bullets struck the victim in the head.

The cause of death was determined as severe craniocerebral trauma caused by firearm bullets.

Investigations continue on all levels with authorities having already taken several witness statements whilst collecting information, examining evidence from discovered material, and reviewing visual footage.

The large-capacity dark-coloured scooter is estimated to have been used by perpetrators for their escape immediately after setting fire to the van used during the crime.

The victim’s vehicle bears approximately 10 holes from an automatic weapon, indicating the shooter was a skilled executor.
