School bus catches fire in Paphos with no students injured

A school bus operated by the Paphos Transport Organisation caught fire this morning in Chloraka, with no students injured as they had not yet boarded the vehicle.

The incident occurred at 7:00 AM on Archbishop Makarios Avenue in Chloraka as the bus approached a stop where numerous students waited for transport to Emba Lyceum.

The driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine area and managed to remove the vehicle from the roadway and safely park it.

The driver attempted to extinguish the fire himself but was unsuccessful. The Fire Service eventually contained the blaze, though the vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Students were transported to school on schedule by another OSYPA bus.

Authorities have begun examining the burnt vehicle to determine the cause of the fire, as the bus is one of the newer additions to the Transport Organisation’s fleet.
