AKEL is reportedly deeply displeased with the Christodoulides government’s position on Israel.
The most recent incident involves the removal of allegedly antisemitic graffiti from walls in Cyprus, an action for which AKEL is blaming the government.
In a statement, AKEL noted that “the circular sent by the diplomatic office of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to erase graffiti from walls in Cyprus at the behest of Israel, constitutes another shameful act” regarding its stance on the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
“The government’s submissive attitude towards the criminal Netanyahu regime is turning it into a propaganda tool for the atrocities taking place in Gaza,” the left-wing party said.
AKEL claims that the government’s excessive and selective sensitivity towards “hate speech” is nothing more than an excuse to silence any expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people. “Mr. Christodoulides should understand that condemning genocide is not ‘antisemitism’; it is a moral obligation,” the statement adds.
The party concludes by demanding an answer to whether the Netanyahu regime is ultimately in charge of the country.
