Rialto Theatre launches outdoor film festival featuring international award winners

Limassol’s Rialto Theatre announced an eight-day outdoor cinema programme running from September 5-12, featuring five contemporary European films that have received international recognition.

The festival will present award-winning productions from France, Italy, Greece and a Swiss-French collaboration at the SEK parking venue behind the theatre, with all screenings beginning at 20:30.

The Marching Band (En Fanfare) – Emmanuel Courcol (FR 2024)

Emmanuel Courcol returns with a film premiered in the Cannes Premiere section of Cannes Film Festival and has been nominated for seven César Awards. Μasterfully brings to life not only two unique characters—brothers trying to make up for a lifetime spent apart—but also two different social classes, which ultimately transcend their divisions through the music.

Starring: Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Lottin. Sarah Suco.

With Greek and English subtitles.

There’s Still Tomorrow (C’è ancora domani) – Paola Cortellesi (ITA, 2023) 12+

Paola Cortellesi’s directorial debut won both the Audience Award and the Jury Prize at the Rome Film Festival, earned six David di Donatello Awards, and was voted “Film of the Year” by the Italian Film Critics Association. The film tells the story of Delia, a poor woman struggling to raise her three children under harsh conditions in post-war Italy.

Kyuka: Before Summer’s End – Kostis Charamountanis (GR 2024)

In his feature debut, Kostis Charamountanis creates a film infused with humour. The film was official Selection at Cannes Film Festival (ACID) and won four awards at Thessaloniki’s International Festival 2024. A father and his twin children set sail for the island of Poros for their summer holidays. Unbeknownst to them, the siblings encounter their biological mother, who had abandoned them when they were babies.

The Mohican (Le Mohican) – Frederic Farrucci (FR 2024) 12+

The film premiered in the Orizzonti Extra section of the Venice Film Festival and received the Fischer Audience Award – Meet the Neighbors+ at Thessaloniki International Festival. Joseph, one of the last goat herders in Corsica, receives a visit from the mafia, who want to seize his land for tourism development. Despite their threats, he refuses to yield and during a confrontation, he unintentionally kills the man threatening him. Forced to flee, Joseph becomes a fugitive on his own island.

Dog on Trial (Le procès du chien) – Laetitia Dosch (CΗ FR, 2024) 12+

A courtroom comedy with an unexpected twist, where a dog is put on trial for nothing more than being himself. The film won the Palm Dog Award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. In this strikingly original film, a blend of slapstick humour and philosophical satire, Avril, an independent lawyer known for taking on impossible cases, decides to defend a dog! A lively and entertaining courtroom drama unfolds, where a dog’s life hangs by a thread.
