It seems that the EU is trying to wrestle back some of the momentum on Ukraine settlement efforts from the United States who have taken the lead and are running away with it after the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, which seems to have utterly transformed the stakes in the three year conflict.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy was expected in Brussels later today for consultations with the leaders of European institutions, including Commission President Ursula Von Der Layen who has officially confirmed that she flying with him to Washington for a trilateral tomorrow with President Trump at the White House.
British PM Starmer, French President Macron, German Chancellor Macron Italian PM Meloni, the Swedish PM; the Finnish President and NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte will also be joining Zelenskyy at the White House, in a major show of international support for Kyiv.
The Ukrainian President will also be taking part in a teleconference of the coalition of the willing, a group formed to contribute towards efforts at reaching a settlement. It includes the UK, France, Germany and EU leaders.
