Three elderly patients hospitalised with severe heatstroke in Nicosia

Relevant News

Three elderly people are being treated for severe heatstroke at Nicosia General Hospital as the prolonged heatwave and particularly high temperatures continue to affect the population, particularly vulnerable groups, the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said on Thursday.

According to Charilaou, the patients include a 72-year-old man and two women aged 73 and 90, who were transported from their homes with severe heatstroke symptoms. Attending doctors said their health condition remains serious but stable, with signs of gradual improvement.

Meanwhile, accident and emergency departments are recording an increased number of cases of heat exhaustion, dehydration and sunburn, mainly among elderly people, who in most cases are discharged after receiving appropriate medical care and guidance.

Charilaou urged the public to avoid sun exposure, maintain adequate hydration and seek immediate medical advice if heatstroke symptoms appear.
