Cyprus transport authorities have advised owners of seven Citroën vehicles to stop driving following recent developments in France regarding defective Takata airbags.
The Road Transport Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announced it had telephoned owners of Citroën vehicles manufactured between 2008 and 2019 that are under recall for defective Takata airbags and included in a category of vehicles the manufacturer may potentially classify as requiring immobilisation.
The communication aimed to immediately inform owners of a possible increased safety risk, as potentially arising from an accident in France involving a similar vehicle type with a defective airbag.
Specifically, the communication concerns seven Citroën C3 and DS3 vehicles manufactured between 2008 and 2019. These vehicles have already been called for airbag replacement but have not yet implemented the recall.
The manufacturer has not yet categorised them as vehicles requiring immobilisation, which may potentially occur in the near future, considering developments in France.
Acting preventively, the Road Transport Department reminded vehicle owners that the recall for Takata airbag replacement remains pending, for which repeated notifications have been issued by the dealer, and recommended they arrange immediately and without further delay an appointment for replacing the defective airbag.
The manufacturer’s distributor is already acting to secure the parts required for implementing the recall.
Until then, the Road Transport Department recommended not using the vehicles.
The department has requested assistance from officials at Cyprus’s Permanent Representation to the European Union for further information from the French delegation regarding the events and their decisions.
The Road Transport Department is closely monitoring the situation and cooperating with competent authorities to ensure citizen safety.
