Two additional arrests have been made in the United Kingdom in connection with an ongoing terrorism investigation in Cyprus, according to reliable sources from Phileleftheros, with the individuals detained and allegedly directly related to the case.
Cyprus authorities’ investigations surrounding the extremely serious case involving terrorist activity and the arrest of an Azerbaijani suspect are in full development and conducted under extreme secrecy.
The case involves foreign intelligence services as well as Europol and Interpol.
According to information obtained by the website, significant evidence has been found in the suspect’s flat, which will be sent for forensic and other examinations. Specifically, photographic equipment, notes, computers, three mobile phones and professional tripods with telephoto lenses were discovered.
The suspect’s nationality is being thoroughly examined, as he presented himself as a British citizen. However, authorities are investigating whether this nationality is genuine.
According to the same reliable information, two additional people were arrested in Britain as part of a coordinated operation, with authorities assessing that the suspect was sending material he recorded in Cyprus to them.
The suspect arrived in Cyprus declaring himself a British citizen and tourist. Authorities are examining his contacts as well as his routes and movements during his stay on the island.
As philenews previously reported, intelligence that led to the suspect’s arrest indicated he had been in Cyprus from April 2025 until present, for the purpose of gathering information about the presence of foreign military forces, possibly preparing a terrorist attack.
The suspect was brought before Limassol District Court on Saturday morning, which ordered his detention for eight days. The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors due to the sensitive nature of the case.
According to the same information, on 20 June 2025, highly classified and reliable intelligence was received at the Anti-Terrorism Squad headquarters from a cooperating foreign service, indicating the suspect was in Cyprus gathering information about foreign military forces with the aim of possible terrorist action.
The suspect is allegedly a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. Physical surveillance conducted since June 2025 by a cooperating service established that the suspect resides in a flat near the British Bases in Zakaki, Limassol.
During surveillance, the suspect was observed moving almost daily on foot near the British Bases, carrying almost daily a large camera with telephoto lens as well as three mobile phones.
He appeared to be taking photographs with both his phones and other electronic devices, repeatedly recording suspicious movements whilst keeping written notes.
Additionally, he was observed travelling by bus from Limassol to Paphos and subsequently approaching “Andreas Papandreou” air base, where he was also recorded photographing installations in a suspicious manner.
He faces charges related to terrorism, espionage, conspiracy to commit a felony and other related offences.
