Banks are set to install new automated teller machines (ATMs) in 11 underserved communities by end of May, addressing concerns about access to banking services following widespread branch closures.
The announcement comes after discussions between the government and the Association of Cyprus Banks focused on improving financial service access in remote locations affected by the banks’ decision to close numerous branches.
According to the Association of Cyprus Banks, the new ATMs will be operational in most of these locations within May, serving communities that have faced banking access challenges.
The new ATMs will be installed in:
- Argaka
- Salamiou
- Pissouri
- Pelendri
- Eptagonia
- Parekklisia
- Astromeritis
- Lythrodontas
- Xylotymvou
- Avgorou
- Frenaros
In addition to the ATM expansion, more than 400 cashback locations are available across Cyprus, providing an alternative method for accessing cash.
Under the cashback scheme, customers can withdraw up to €100 per transaction when making purchases at retail businesses including supermarkets, bakeries, convenience stores, and petrol stations.
