A €50 million international Jewish school is set to break ground in Limassol’s Polemidia municipality this September, marking one of the largest education investments in Cyprus in recent years.

The Cyprus Jewish Academy of Excellence, funded by the Yael Foundation, is currently finalising architectural plans and seeking approval from the Ministry of Education, sources told philenews.

“The school will be the cornerstone of the Jewish community in Cyprus, making it an even more attractive place to live,” said Rabbi Yehoshua Smukler, who will oversee the institution.

The academy, scheduled to open in 2027, will accommodate up to 1,500 students from Cyprus and abroad, offering primary and secondary education following international standards.

The facility will feature modern classrooms, laboratories, creative spaces, a library, sports facilities and places of worship, according to information provided by the Yael Foundation.

Founded in 2020 by Uri and Yael Poliavich, a Jewish couple residing permanently in Cyprus, the Yael Foundation operates in 35 countries, supporting 13,000 Jewish students worldwide.

The organisation provides grants to 55 day schools, 18 catechetical schools, 10 kindergartens and 17 after-school programmes.

The project is part of a wider educational development trend in the area extending between Polemidia, Palodia and Ayia Fyla, near the new Limassol-Saittas highway.

The region is rapidly evolving into an education hub with several private schools already operating or expanding.

These include the Pascal private primary school, Heritage School and The Island School, which currently operates in temporary facilities but plans to build a modern educational complex.

Across from Pascal’s current unit, new facilities for the same school are in their final construction phase. Additionally, the area will host the University of Limassol campus with student dormitories and a specialised private school for children with special needs.

Beyond educational facilities, the region has attracted other major investments, including a mixed-use development by BBF Company with an estimated budget of €856 million.

This project will incorporate international educational institutions, advanced business park facilities, innovation spaces and a residential complex surrounded by green parks.
