Cyprus will experience significant atmospheric dust on Wednesday followed by widespread rain and thunderstorms on Friday, with temperatures dropping by approximately three degrees Celsius, meteorological official Panagiotis Georgiou said on Monday.
Isolated showers are expected in mountainous regions today and Tuesday, with weather phenomena potentially extending to northern areas by Tuesday afternoon, Georgiou told reporters.
More widespread weather activity is forecast for Wednesday, with localised rain and a small possibility of thunderstorms. Similar conditions are expected on Thursday, with isolated rainfall and potential storms.
A weather system moving northward between Cyprus and Egypt will affect the region, bringing dust primarily on Wednesday. “The dust will be intense but will recede within the same day,” Georgiou said, adding that no dust is expected on Thursday or in subsequent days.
Friday will see the most severe weather conditions, with localised rain and isolated thunderstorms affecting many areas across the island. Georgiou indicated that authorities may issue a severe weather warning.
Regarding temperatures, conditions will remain steady today and tomorrow between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. A slight increase of one degree is predicted for Wednesday, while Thursday and Friday will see temperatures drop by up to three degrees Celsius, falling slightly below seasonal averages.
Georgiou noted that no dust is expected today or Tuesday, but a dust wave will affect the region on Wednesday before quickly subsiding.
