Cyprus has cancelled a €14.6 million contract for two Kamov helicopters intended for forest firefighting operations, following irregularities discovered in the tender evaluation process.

The decision to void the contract was announced during proceedings at the Administrative Court on Friday, where a legal representative for the state confirmed that the Treasury of the Republic had found flaws in the tender evaluation.

“After investigating the tender evaluation process, we concluded that the decision to award the €14,628,000 contract to the specific company should be cancelled,” the Law Office representative told the court during a hearing initiated by one of the unsuccessful bidders.

The contract would have provided two Kamov helicopters for firefighting purposes, with provisions for potentially acquiring two additional aircraft of the same type under certain conditions.

Accountant General Andreas Antoniades told philenews that the Evaluation Committee will promptly reassess all bids from the beginning.

“We aim to complete this process as quickly as possible,” Antoniades said, referring to efforts to secure sufficient aerial firefighting capability for the upcoming summer months when wildfire risk increases.
