A 48-year-old driver has been arrested in Limassol after police found him in a stationary vehicle in the middle of a junction with nearly eight times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

Police said that at around 6:30 pm on Friday, traffic officers in Limassol came across a car stopped in the middle of the crossroads of Amathountos and Ariadnis Avenues. A 48-year-old man was found in the driver’s seat.

A preliminary breathalyser test on the driver indicated 169 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 22 micrograms. He was then taken to the police station for a final breath alcohol test, which registered 145 micrograms.

The 48-year-old was arrested and detained for offences including driving under the influence of alcohol and obstructing traffic. He is expected to be charged in writing later today and released pending a court summons at a later date.

Limassol traffic police are continuing their investigations.
