A bright object that appeared in Cyprus skies yesterday evening was almost certainly an aircraft reflecting sunlight, not a meteor or rocket as some had speculated, according to the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO).
CSEO President George Danos told Phileleftheros there is a 95% certainty that the phenomenon observed across the island was caused by sunlight reflecting off an aircraft.
“The sun’s rays were illuminating the aircraft after sunset, which created this phenomenon,” Danos explained, addressing widespread speculation that had circulated online since the sighting.
The mysterious light prompted public interest after images and videos of the bright object spread across social media yesterday.
