The Cabinet has decided to release the findings of a criminal investigation into the death of Thanasis Nicolaou to both the Attorney General and the deceased’s family, government sources confirmed on Wednesday.
The decision, according to philenews sources, aims to uphold constitutional requirements whilst ensuring transparency and objectivity.
“The Cabinet could not withhold the report from the Attorney General,” a source told philenews, noting that under the Cypriot Constitution, the Attorney General holds sole authority to determine whether criminal prosecutions should proceed.
In a move designed to increase transparency, President Christodoulides personally informed Andriana Nicolaou, the mother of the deceased, that her family would also receive access to the investigation findings, allowing them to review the document with their legal representatives and consider potential further actions.
The criminal investigators’ report, as revealed by philenews, concludes that Nicolaou’s death resulted from criminal activity.
However, the investigation has reportedly not identified specific perpetrators or those who may have orchestrated the crime.
