Snow fell across Cyprus’s mountainous and semi-mountainous regions on Saturday as a cold front dubbed ‘Coral’ hit the island, prompting authorities to issue an orange weather alert.
The Department of Meteorology warned temperatures could plunge to -11 degrees Celsius in mountain areas, with widespread frost expected overnight.
First snowfall was reported in areas across Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca districts, with residents sharing footage of the weather conditions.
The orange alert – the second-highest warning level – remains in effect from 22:00 Saturday until 08:00 Sunday. Authorities urged residents, particularly in mountain areas, to avoid unnecessary travel due to hazardous conditions.
