Cyprus will experience its lowest temperatures of the season during February 22-24 as Storm Coral sweeps across the island, meteorological officer Andreas Chrysanthou said on Friday.
Temperatures in inland areas dropped to 8°C Friday morning, with a maximum of 10°C expected – approximately 9 degrees lower than Wednesday’s readings. Coastal regions recorded temperatures 6-8 degrees below Wednesday’s levels.
The mountainous Troodos region registered -1°C, with a maximum forecast between 0 and 1°C, marking a 7-degree drop from Wednesday.
“Even lower temperatures are predicted for the weekend, with inland and coastal areas not exceeding 10°C, while mountain regions could see temperatures fall below -8°C during evening hours,” Chrysanthou said. The Meteorological Department is considering issuing a weather warning.
Local rainfall and snow are expected in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas over the weekend, with snowfall possible at lower altitudes.
Temperatures will begin rising gradually from February 28, though remaining below seasonal averages, before returning to normal levels by the Clean Monday holiday period.
