Cyprus mourns family lost in devastating house fire in Limassol

Relevant News

Cyprus is in mourning following a deadly house fire that claimed the lives of an entire family in the early hours of Saturday. Three young children and their parents were trapped inside their home as flames engulfed the building, leaving them with no chance to escape.

Relatives, who witnessed the fire consuming the house, made desperate attempts to save their loved ones but were ultimately powerless against the rapidly spreading blaze. The harrowing events of that night have left the community in shock.

Fatalities and Investigation

Authorities confirmed that the victims— a 35-year-old father, a 32-year-old mother, and their three children, aged 7, 3, and 2— lost consciousness in their bedrooms as thick smoke filled the home. The fire, which originated in the open-plan kitchen and living area, completely destroyed the residence.

Investigators, including police, fire services, and electrical engineers, are examining the cause of the blaze. Early findings suggest an electrical fault may have triggered the fire, though officials have not yet ruled out other possibilities.

Parents’ Desperate Attempt to Save Children

Preliminary reports indicate that the house’s only escape route was through the ground-floor living space, which was quickly overtaken by flames. The parents were found in the children’s bedrooms, suggesting they had tried to rescue them but were overcome by smoke and fire.

The home was partially constructed with drywall, and there was no secondary exit apart from an internal staircase and a small second-floor balcony. Reports also indicate that a recent extension to the house may have impacted its fire safety.

Eyewitness Accounts

A relative who attempted to help described the terrifying scene. Woken by the smell of burning shortly after 4 a.m., he rushed upstairs, only to be met by intense flames. “I broke the glass, covered my face, but the fire came straight at me,” he recalled.

He also noted that the family had recently replaced an older heater with a new electric model. Another family member attempted to douse the flames with water while calling emergency services, but the fire’s intensity made rescue efforts impossible.

Emergency responders, including police and fire crews, arrived swiftly, but by then, the blaze had already consumed the home.
