Elon Musk has denied any plans to acquire TikTok, despite rumors suggesting that he was considering a purchase of the popular platform. The billionaire, who has close ties with U.S. President Donald Trump, addressed the speculation during an online summit last week, clarifying that he has not made an offer and has no intention of getting involved in the acquisition of the platform.
Rumor Denial
Speaking at the WELT Economic Summit, held on January 28 by German media group Axel Springer, Musk emphasized that he had no plans to buy TikTok. “I have no plans for what I would do if I had TikTok,” he stated, hinting that while he might explore the platform’s algorithms, acquiring the app was not of interest to him.
Comparison with Twitter Acquisition
Musk compared the rumored TikTok acquisition to his purchase of Twitter (now X), explaining that he acquired the social media platform to protect free speech. In contrast, he noted that TikTok does not appeal to him ideologically, as the only basis for such an acquisition would be financial.
Nevertheless, the billionaire has previously opposed the potential ban of TikTok in the U.S., arguing that such a move would go against the principles of free speech.
