Threats against President Christodoulides traced to occupied north

Investigators have determined that online threats made against President Christodoulides last week originated from an internet provider in the occupied north, sources told Phileleftheros.

The probe has ruled out the possibility that the threatening message was sent from IP addresses in government-controlled areas or abroad. Investigators have also confirmed that the provider’s signal does not reach the Central Prisons, eliminating the possibility that the threat was sent from within the facility.

A mobile phone discovered in wing 10A of the prison during police searches last Friday appears unrelated to the threats. Authorities are examining a notebook found in a defendant’s possession to determine any potential connection to the case, which reportedly relates to an ongoing court matter.

Prison sources indicate no mobile phones using providers from the occupied areas have been found in cells to date. President Christodoulides, who publicly confirmed receiving the threats and expressed confidence in authorities, is being kept informed of all developments.

Security measures during the president’s movements have been enhanced, with a new Presidential Guard commander expected to be appointed soon following Panicos Stavrou’s promotion to Deputy Police Chief.
