Police have begun a criminal investigation into the procurement procedures for aerial firefighting equipment by the Department of Forests, the Ministry of Agriculture said Wednesday.
The investigation follows an administrative inquiry that examined all contracts, including leasing and maintenance agreements, from 2017 onwards.
The probe was initiated after Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou received a written complaint.
The administrative inquiry report, submitted to the minister on 6 December 2024, was forwarded to the Law Office of the Republic. After evaluating the findings, officials referred the investigating officer’s conclusions to the police for further investigation.
The investigation aims to identify any actions or omissions that could constitute disciplinary or criminal offences.
