While the Cypriot state is delighted that the Vatican recently decided to open an embassy in Nicosia, the embassy’s neighbours are far from pleased. Located on a residential street opposite a nursery school in Agios Andreas, Nicosia, the embassy has commandeered three parking spaces outside its building, cordoning them off for private use. This has narrowed the road directly outside the nursery school, causing chaos every afternoon when parents come to collect their children.
What’s going on with these embassies? We already have one neighbourhood in Agioi Omologites hemmed in by the Israeli embassy, and now we’ll have another in Agios Andreas because of the Vatican embassy?
