President Nikos Christodoulides travels to Cairo today for the 10th Cyprus-Greece-Egypt Trilateral Summit and the 2nd Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Meeting.
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said yesterday that several memoranda of cooperation will be signed during the trilateral summit, covering healthcare, port development, information technology and communications, and investment relations.
These agreements “will further strengthen joint actions and establish solid foundations for the future development of this trilateral relationship”, he said.
The 2nd Cyprus-Egypt Intergovernmental Meeting will precede the Trilateral Summit, aiming to establish regular intergovernmental meetings that will alternate between the two countries.
According to the spokesman, the meeting will explore opportunities for joint investment projects in infrastructure, trade, technology, innovation and tourism, whilst examining actions towards closer energy cooperation.
Additional memoranda of cooperation will be signed in areas of mutual interest, including education, information and communications technology, women’s empowerment, water management and aquaculture development, Letymbiotis added.
The three leaders are expected to make statements at 14:30.
President Christodoulides is accompanied by a delegation including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, the Deputy Minister for European Affairs, the National Security Adviser, the Director of the President’s Diplomatic Office, and other officials.
A business forum featuring representatives from all three countries will be held on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Meeting and Trilateral Summit.
