Geo Pavlides Automotive, Cyprus’s Mazda Demio distributor, announced plans to establish a dedicated telephone helpline for airbag-related inquiries following high call volumes to its main switchboard.
“A specific contact number will soon be announced exclusively for Takata airbag recall matters,” the company said in a social media statement on Wednesday, acknowledging customer inconvenience.
The distributor is the first to respond to the Road Transport Department’s request after receiving a comprehensive list of registered vehicles potentially affected by defective airbags in used vehicles imported from non-EU countries.
The recall specifically targets passenger-side airbag replacements in Mazda Demio vehicles imported as used cars from nations outside the European Union.
The Road Transport Department is awaiting further information from Geo Pavlides Automotive regarding additional recalls, including those affecting driver-side airbags.
Faulty Takata airbags have been linked to several deaths and injuries globally. Cyprus has confirmed two deaths caused by faulty Takata airbags.
