Kurdish residents in Cyprus are holding a protest march against terrorist and rebel attacks in Syria.
The march began at 1:00 pm from Eleftheria Square at the start of Ledra Street in Nicosia and is heading towards the U.S. Embassy.
According to a statement from the Democratic Union Party’s (PYD) Cyprus Representative Office, terrorist organisations have turned their attention to the city of Manbij following the fall of Damascus.
The statement notes that Turkish aircraft are participating in the bombardment of the city, forcing residents to face the difficult choice of abandoning their homes for survival.

The PYD claims that these terrorist organisations are being armed and supported by Turkey, describing the situation as “another Turkish intervention and invasion within Syria”.
They point out that many of the civilians currently fleeing are refugees who were previously displaced from Afrin following the Turkish military’s invasion of northern Syria in February 2018.

The organisation argues that references to a “Syrian opposition” or “rebels” are misleading and do not accurately reflect the situation on the ground.
They report that following the capture of Aleppo, Hama and other cities, half a million civilians, predominantly Kurdish, have been forced to seek refuge in Rojava, the region controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
A delegation from the protest will meet with an embassy representative to request immediate U.S. intervention to halt the terrorist attacks.
The group will also present a statement from the Democratic Union Party regarding the situation in Syria.
