Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos has taken to social media to condemn what he calls “incompetence” at Paphos General Hospital following the death of a 6-year-old child who was being treated for gastroenteritis.
In his post, Phedonos stated that the child, who had been suffering from gastroenteritis for five days, was taken to Paphos General Hospital yesterday.
Due to what he described as staff inability to handle the case and lack of available beds, the child was transferred to Nicosia after more than two hours’ delay.
“Some people don’t even respect the lives of young children. Those who leave Paphos General Hospital in this tragic state of inadequacy bear enormous responsibility”, the mayor wrote.
This follows Phaedonos’s earlier complaint about a similar incident where a child from Polis Chrysochous with pneumonia and tachycardia had to be urgently transferred to Limassol due to lack of paediatric beds in Paphos.
“The increased distance puts their life at greater risk. It’s been the same scenario for four years, while some celebrate ‘successes’. How much inefficiency can there be?” he stated.
