Customs officials have seized nearly 1,400 litres of fuel and arrested a 40-year-old man in Nicosia after discovering illegal fuel supplies in his residence on Saturday.
Acting on information from Nicosia’s Criminal Investigation Department, customs officers executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, where they found seven large metal barrels and four small plastic containers filled with a total of 1,395 litres of fuel.
The suspect admitted to smuggling the fuel from the occupied north with the intention of reselling it to others, officials said.
The man was arrested and will appear before the Nicosia District Court for a remand hearing.
Police and customs authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
