Art project launches to help save Cyprus’s endangered vultures

The Air Balloon Digital Studio and TEPAK’s School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship have launched “Ostrakon Project 2024: Majestic Scavengers,” an initiative aimed at saving Cyprus’s critically endangered vulture population.

The project, developed in collaboration with BirdLife Cyprus, addresses the dramatic decline of the Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), the island’s only vulture species.

With approximately 20 individuals remaining, Cyprus hosts Europe’s smallest vulture population.

The birds face serious threats from illegal poisoning and electrocution on power distribution networks.

As part of the initiative, artist Yiannis Sakellis from the Kimonos Arts Center has created a special artwork featuring the Griffon Vulture, producing 50 numbered and signed prints.

All proceeds from the sale will support BirdLife Cyprus’s conservation efforts.

The launch event will take place today at 7:00 PM in Amphitheatre 1 of TEPAK’s School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship in Paphos.

Organisers invite environmental supporters to attend and contribute to the survival of this majestic species.
