On Saturday, the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) and EKO Cyprus Limited, a liquid fuel distribution and trading company, were the victims of a cyberattack, as reported by reliable sources to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
According to the information, an attempted cyber intrusion into the systems of both organizations occurred on Saturday evening but was successfully thwarted. This incident marks the fifth cyberattack against Cypriot entities within three days, raising concerns among relevant authorities.
The series of attacks began on Friday morning when the website of Larnaca International Airport, managed by Hermes Airports, was targeted. That afternoon, the Bank of Cyprus and the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) also faced cyber intrusions. In all instances, the attacks were successfully countered, and the websites resumed normal operations.
A relevant source informed the CNA that the hackers aim to incapacitate critical infrastructure websites in Cyprus. Fortunately, no personal data has reportedly been compromised at this time.
