The Police arrested four individuals yesterday during the riots that erupted in relation to the cancelled football match between Apollon and AEL.
The arrested individuals, two 17-year-olds, an 18-year-old, and a 21-year-old, all from Limassol, were outside the AEL’s Fan Club and attempted to flee in a vehicle upon seeing the police.
The Police officers stopped the vehicle, and during the search, they found a metal baton inside and hoods in the possession of the three individuals. All were arrested for flagrant offences.
The arrested individuals were taken to the Limassol CID offices, where they were re-arrested based on judicial warrants and placed in custody.
The Cyprus Police Association (CPA) strongly condemned the attack on Police officers during the Apollon-AEL football match in Limassol, calling for the swift and severe punishment of the perpetrators.
The CPA emphasised that this incident highlights the dangers faced by Police officers in their line of duty, where they are often required to confront crime and protect the public, putting their lives at risk.
The CPA views this attack as an assault on the Republic’s law enforcement and expects the State and competent authorities to take immediate and decisive action to uphold the prestige and dignity of Police officers, as is customary in democratic societies.
The CPA stated that it stands in solidarity with the injured officers and calls for swift justice to be served.
