Fire service prevents dry weeds and garbage dump fires from spreading in windy conditions

It was a decisive response on two occasions today as potentially dangerous fires were caught early and put out by the fire service in the Alassa area of Limassol and near the Ora community in Larnaca.

In the first instance, a crew in one vehicle responded to a blaze in an illegal garbage site outside Alassa near the Limassol-Platres road, managing to douse the flames before spreading, battling strong winds.

Dry weeds caught fire at a small area close to the village of Ora, with a patrol rushing to the scene, assisted by members of the emergency services.

Both the forestry department and the fire services maintain daily patrols, particularly around forested areas, as temperatures remain high, while strong winds over the weekend are a further cause for vigilance.

The cause of both fires are currently under investigation.
