The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, briefed the heads of the country’s diplomatic missions abroad on developments in the Cyprus issue and other matters concerning the policies of the Republic across a wide range of topics.
At the outset of the meeting, President Christodoulides informed the heads of diplomatic missions that “an effort is underway to restart talks at our initiative. Perhaps soon, we may have some developments even within August-early September. We are fully prepared.”
He also referred to Cyprus’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, noting that “we have started preparations, and we will also hold the MED9 Presidency, during which Ministerial Meetings and the Summit of Heads of State will take place in Cyprus.”
He further mentioned an “ongoing initiative regarding the humanitarian corridor to Gaza, a very important issue as it practically demonstrates a goal we have been striving to achieve in recent years. In conjunction with this, there are also discussions within the European Commission on the composition of the new Commission, with some new portfolios proposed by the Commission President, which are also related to our efforts.”
The President concluded by stating that “today’s discussion will be substantive.”
