The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the successful delivery of over 8,600 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza since the activation of a floating platform in early May.
Theodoros Gotsis, spokesperson for the Ministry, called the accomplishment “a very significant result.” He highlighted a period in June where the transferred aid volume was “the second-largest to arrive in Gaza.”
Gotsis emphasised continued efforts. The Ministry remains in contact with the UN Special Coordinator for Gaza and other partners to activate additional options within the “Amalthea Plan” framework for delivering humanitarian aid.
He acknowledged the transfer of a smaller amount of aid to the Israeli port of Ashdod and stressed the importance of optimising its utilisation for future deliveries. This aligns with the position of the international community, including the European Union and Cyprus, who advocate for activating all available crossing routes.
Gotsis clarified that the US-deployed floating pier was a temporary option.
Consultations with core partners, including the US, EU, and UAE, are ongoing to explore further contributions to the Amalthea initiative.
