Students and chaperones set to return to Cyprus after being stranded in Switzerland

A group of 65 students and six chaperones from the English School in Cyprus, who were stranded in Switzerland following severe weather and landslides, are now in Milan, Italy, and preparing for their return home.

Theodoros Gotsis, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed to CNA (Cyprus News Agency) that the road network was cleared late yesterday.

This allowed the group safe passage by bus to Milan, the destination they initially landed in. They will gradually return to Cyprus via commercial flights.

The students were on a school trip to Switzerland when adverse weather conditions caused landslides, blocking their planned route.

The Embassy of Cyprus in Rome, which is accredited in Switzerland, remained in communication with the group from the outset to ensure their safe return.
