The investigations by the investigative team of the Limassol Police Department are in full swing, probing the criminal activity against a police officer – a guard of the Presidential Guard, which occurred 20 minutes before midnight on Monday.
As per the information available to Phileleftheros, a significant clue exists in the hands of the Limassol Police Department, potentially aiding in the perpetrator’s identification.
It is visual material from a surveillance camera in the area where the officer resides.
The video is being scrutinized frame by frame by the case investigators, and according to the information, it captures a distant figure.
The facial features of the person are not discernible.
The individual, who is purportedly also the perpetrator of the arson of the two vehicles, has his face covered with a hoodie.
Although the video from the surveillance camera is of poor quality, it will undergo processing in an attempt to identify the said person.
Meanwhile, the investigators are examining other closed-circuit cameras in the area, intensifying their efforts to gather more evidence.
Various pieces of evidence have been collected from the arson scene, which will be sent for scientific examination, while various pieces of information have been placed under the investigators’ scrutiny.
The same information indicates that the target of the criminal activity has been “locked in” as a member of the Presidential Guard, yet for the time being, the motives are still under investigation.
Police inquiries do not seem to be directed towards the 54-year-old’s professional occupation, with the Police being cautious and particularly mindful of what is disclosed to the public.
For now, the 54-year-old has not provided a statement to the authorities.
He remains hospitalized in a city hospital. In his attempt to extinguish the fire from the vehicles, the 54-year-old appears to have inhaled smoke from the fumes.
Investigators expect him to be discharged soon so that they can take his statement.
The two vehicles engulfed in flames were parked outside the three-story residence where the 54-year-old resides.
One vehicle is registered to a relative of his, while the other belongs to a close family friend of the 54-year-old. Information suggests that the 54-year-old had been using one of the two cars recently.
Regarding the arson of the two vehicles, Limassol Police Director, Andreas Angelidis, stated that the Limassol Police Department’s investigations continue “to have a clear picture of the motives behind the new criminal activity.”
He noted that depositions are being taken, testimonies and other information evaluated concerning the motives and the overall investigation of the case.
He emphasized that “what matters is to have, as soon as possible, a clear picture, testimonies, a documented position regarding the motives of the criminal activity.”
