Under draconian security measures, the four accused in the murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, which took place on the morning of October 30, 2023, in a parking lot of a seaside restaurant in Limassol, are expected to be brought to trial today.

The trial process will proceed as normal at the Limassol Permanent Criminal Court after the rejection of the request by the defendants’ lawyers by the Supreme Court.

The lawyers of the four had requested that the trial be held at the Nicosia Criminal Court due to tensions, assaults, insults, and threats they and their clients faced during the pretrial detention process.

As Phileleftheros reports, additional evidence related to the case was handed over to the defendants’ lawyers yesterday.

There are indications that the defendants may not respond to the charges that will be brought against them today if there is insufficient evidence.

The serious indictment includes charges of conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, possession, transport, and use of firearms of category A and B, possession, transport, and use of explosives, vehicle arson, and theft.

The 12 charges concern the three accused, while the 13th pertains only to the 22-year-old for the crime of complicity after the fact.

It is noted that the charges also include the offense under Article 20 of the Penal Code Chapter 154, which concerns complicity.

In the previous proceedings, the representative of the Prosecution requested that all four accused remain in custody at the Central Prisons.

On their part, the defense attorneys reserved the right to object to the request for their clients’ detention. The proceedings were attended by friendly and family members of Kalogeropoulos.
