The Limassol Criminal Court is set to preside over the trial concerning the high-profile murder of Thanasis Kalogeropoulos.

In a recent decision, the Supreme Court dismissed a motion by the defence lawyers representing the four accused, who sought to relocate the trial to Nicosia citing concerns over the tense atmosphere and incidents of harassment during the pre-trial detention phase.

The quartet is slated to appear in court on February 8, 2024, where they will respond to a raft of grave accusations.

The charges against them include conspiracy to commit murder, premeditated murder, illegal possession, transport, and use of Class A and B firearms, explosives handling, vehicle arson, and theft. Among these, twelve charges are common to three of the accused, with the thirteenth charge of complicity specifically directed at the youngest defendant, a 22-year-old.

The legal proceedings have already drawn significant attention, with the previous session on January 23 conducted under heavy police presence and attended by friends and family members of Kalogeropoulos.

Kalogeropoulos, 55, a person reportedly involved in Limassol’s underworld was gunned down on the morning of October 30, 2023, in a parking area of a coastal restaurant in Yermasoyia.
