Relevant News

This year, the Ministry of Labour has announced the reimplementation of the Training Program for Employees in Hotel Units that are either fully or partially suspended during the period from December 2023 to March 2024 and January 2024 to May 2024 (for Mountain Resort Hotels).

The announcement also includes the Training Program for Employees in Recreation Centers located in the Famagusta Area and the coastal front of Paphos, which is undergoing work suspension during the period from December 2023 to March 2024.

The aim of the programs is to provide training opportunities to employees, with the ultimate goal of improving their professional skills and, consequently, upgrading Cyprus’ tourism product.

The Training Program for Employees in Hotel Units will be implemented for two periods, namely from December 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, and from January 1, 2024, to May 31, 2024 (for Mountain Resort Hotels).

The Training Program for Employees in Recreation Centers located in the Free Famagusta Area and the coastal front of Paphos will be implemented from December 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.

According to the plans approved by the Council of Ministers, if Recreation Centers or Hotel Units choose to continue their operation during the period they traditionally suspended work in previous years, then the unemployment benefit that would normally be provided to employees will be provided to the enterprise or the hotel unit as a training allowance.

The enterprise or hotel unit will pay the full salary to the employee.

The competent authority for managing the programs is the Social Insurance Services of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance.
