In response to criticisms regarding the absence of Cabinet members from yesterday’s Plenary Session of the Parliament for the discussion on the state budget, the Government Spokesperson addressed the media at the Presidential Palace.

Constantinos Letymbiotis acknowledged a “neglect, a mistake which we recognize” and assured that Cabinet members, who were not abroad, would attend the discussion, “according to the schedule.”

During the briefing, Mr. Letymbiotis stated:

“Allow me to begin with a statement about the absence of members of the Government from yesterday’s Plenary Session of the Parliament for the discussion on the state budget. The absence of members of the executive authority created an image that is by no means due to disrespect towards the executive authority. In any case, it was neglect, a mistake that we recognize.

Respect for the legislative authority is given and self-evident. Moreover, respect for the House of Representatives has been proven in practice through the amicable collaboration that allowed the resolution of long-standing issues, such as the framework for addressing Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), VAT for primary residences, and many others.

The Executive Authority demonstrates respect for the House of Representatives every day through the timely promotion of significant bills and sincere cooperation in a series of reforms. Particularly in the discussion on the state budget, members of the Cabinet in the relevant committees exchanged views with a sincere disposition, listened to concerns, and suggestions to shape the budget.

Both today and during tomorrow’s session of the House of Representatives, Cabinet members who are not absent abroad will participate in the discussion, according to the schedule.”
